Kindle Paperwhite 3G
With the rapidly expanding library of available ebooks and digital media;companies are fighting to stay at the front edge of the competitive ereader industry, many makers of these units have made great advancements in the e ink technology, lighting features, and even the pricing point of their units. As consumers in a competitive market, we should always review and consider our options before making a final selection and purchase. – that said today we are reviewing the new kindle paperwhite 3G 6″ ereader.
The new kindle paperwhite 3G comes in the same external shell as the earlier model so familiarity for returning user shouldn’t be an issue. However, don’t be fooled by the lack of change, momma always said,It’s what’s on the inside that counts. In that regard, kindle made some notable improvements, with a faster and more responsive processor, the improved e-ink technology, and battery life, the kindle paperwhite 3G is a worthy buy or upgrade, not to mention it includes free 3G wireless with no attached monthly fees, nice touch!
The built in light on the new kindle paperwhite 3G is more evenly dispersed over the screen and doesn’t seem to gather on the bottom of the unit. Although the backlight level is adjustable, it must be done by using the slider on the screen as opposed to a button feature available on some of the other ereader models.
Kindle has also improved the quality of the backlight effect and the pages no longer have that bluish white look, this noticeable correction creates a greater contrast to the inked text and gives it a real page feel and appearance.
You will notice the new model has improved speed and responsiveness,as well as the page refreshes occur less often instead of every six pages, it usually cycles every 12.This makes for a more enjoyable read; although it’s nothing too noticeable.
No big change on the battery life so and as long as you leave the Wi-Fi off, when not browsing the bookstore, it should easily hold itself for 60 days considering casual use.
In the event you are not already aware, the kindle is mainly a proprietary device from amazon and connects to the amazon bookstore, not really a big deal for most users because Amazon seems to lead the industry in many facets and has extensive libraries at competitive prices. The only factor coming into play is that it does not support the common EPUB file format. However if you use the Wi-Fi,you should still be able to read documents using a browser and the bookworm program.
The Bottom Line
Overall, we liked the newest addition to the kindle bookshelf and think its steady performance and technology makes it worthy of consumer consideration, consumer high five has given it a 4.8 out of 5.0 and have selected it as our number one pick in our 2014 ereader reviews.
